Lock Repair
Restoring security to historic Boston doors, sticky deadbolts, and broken commercial hardware.
If your key is hard to turn or your deadbolt sticks, forcing it is a recipe for disaster. Ignoring a struggling lock usually results in a snapped key or being completely locked out late at night. Before you spend hundreds of dollars on brand-new hardware, let our master technicians take a look. In many cases, we can completely disassemble, clean, lubricate, and repair your existing lock.
Fixing Boston's Weather Damage
New England's extreme temperature swings wreak havoc on door hardware. The intense freezing and thawing cycle causes heavy wooden doors in older neighborhoods to warp and sag. When this happens, the deadbolt no longer lines up with the strike plate. We realign strike plates, adjust hinges, and correct sagging doors to make your locks throw smoothly again.
Historic Mortise Lock Repair
Boston is filled with historic brownstones featuring massive, antique mortise locks embedded deep inside the door frame. These locks are incredibly secure, and extremely expensive to replace. Our technicians specialize in disassembling antique mortise cassettes, replacing broken springs, and rebuilding the internal mechanics to preserve your home's historic charm.
Broken Key Extraction
When a lock is failing, the brass key takes the brunt of the stress. Eventually, the key will snap off cleanly inside the cylinder. Do not attempt to dig the fragment out with household tools, as you will likely destroy the fragile pins inside the lock. We use microscopic extraction tools to safely remove the broken brass.
